October Favorites

Well, I blinked and October passed me by! Can you believe we are so close to Thanksgiving and Christmas?! I am working on another Gift Guide this year for gift ideas for you, but if you need ideas before I release my new Gift Guide in a few weeks, check out my 2019 Gift Guide.

Now, for my October Favorites!

  • Each year, I eagerly await the first cold temperatures of the fall so that I can make The Mansion’s Tortilla Soup. I have never been there, but this recipe is so delicious! Of course, we tweak it a bit to make it our own by serving it over rice and adding corn, beans or hominy to it. I also cook the chicken in the soup instead of adding after the soup is ready.
  • I love Bastille’s song, “survivin’ “! The beat is so fun and I feel like this is a perfect song to sum up 2020. 🙂 The saxophone entrance is especially fun! Listen below.
  • I recently added this to my lengthy list of subscribed podcasts and am really enjoying it. On The Balanced Life, Robin Long typically interviews guests to talk about how they juggle the demands of life–work, health, family and self-care. Each episode is full of practical advice.
  • I saw a meme that made me laugh this week. It said, “Halloween is unnecessary this year. I’ve been wearing a mask and eating candy for seven months now.” My go-to candy when I treat myself has been these Darrell Lea Soft Australian Liquorice. As a fan of Twizzler Nibs, I find these even more delicious. I did see Amazon had them in different flavors (green apple and mango) which I have not tried.
  • I used to run and love it so much, but alas, age has taken that activity out of my workout regimen. The best high cardio workout I have found to replace running, but that my joints and ligaments can handle, is the “Sprint” class from Les Mills. It is a 30-minute high intensity interval training class on a spin bike. It is such a great challenge! If you’re a member of a gym that offers Les Mills group classes, I highly recommend Sprint. (P.S. Give it a few tries for the soreness that comes from riding a bike to stop.)

That’s it for my October Favorites, friends! I hope you are inspired to try a few of these. I would love for you to share one of your current favorites with me! Leave a comment and let me know.

Until next time, I hope you find small things that bring you great joy!
